Madame Fling Flong Logo and Images

Madame Fling Flong

Level 1, 169 King Street, Newtown NSW 2042

Originally operating as Soni’s restaurant with funky cocktail bar 'Madame Fling Flong' upstairs, the venue has now changed hands, with new proprietors licensee Matt Kennedy and head chef Chris Bell retaining the name yet changing things up with a brand new tapas-style restaurant and front bar.

The duo met through their love of fresh produce and the slow food movement, and currently cultivate a plot of land north of Sydney on which they grow a large proportion of the new menu's fresh ingredients. Chef Chris Bell produces the house-cured charcuterie, pickles and hand crafted cheeses, and infuses oils with home-grown herbs and fruits. By growing our own ingredients locally and producing menu items from scratch, we're ensuring a freshness and authenticity of cuisine.

The style of dining, whilst not strictly European, is derivative of the tapas and pinxos bars of Spain and the Basque region

Gold Diggers Arms Logo and Images

Gold Diggers Arms

87 Skene Street, Newtown VIC 3220

Nestled in the Newtown’s leafy Skene Street, Gold Diggers Arms may well be ‘the last of the true neighbourhood pubs’ in Geelong. In time honoured tradition the ‘Diggers’ has become the local for many, with their next generations following suit and making it their local of choice too.

It all began for the Gold Diggers Arms in 1854 when William Lindsay was granted licence to the establishment. The population of Geelong was just over 20,000 people. Now, 150 years later, Newtown is an integral part of Geelong with sporting clubs, schools and shops.

It is one of the great pleasures of pub going, that every so often you find a pub that is as near perfection as possible. Perfection is of course subjective, which is why it’s so important that pubs are as individual as their customers. Finding a pub that ticks all your boxes is worth shouting about, and that is what we will be striving to achieve. In moving forward to the future of the Diggers we want to continue finding the things that make the perfect pub.

Buzzbar is one of those thank-the-lord establishments that - though it's nestled smack-bang in the middle of Newtown's King Street - somehow makes you feel like you could be south of the border in Melbourne. If you're not paying attention as you walk along the street dodging the hippies, goths and general mayhem, you could miss the entrance entirely. Okay, so it might not be a jungle; but meander through the main dining area of the front cafe section and you'll find a quaint leafy spin on the average beer garden out the back - a true testament to the creativity inner Sydneysiders have when it comes to utilising space.
